In 2025, Printed is taking a sabbatical to evaluate our goals and give space for rest and recalibration.

2024
Issue 3

Dedicated to building community through print.

  • Printed’s mission is to build a common ground, where emerging students, established professionals, and longtime hobbyists can coexist in one creative space, without barriers and without categories.

Through the union of different mediums, messages, disciplines, and backgrounds we hope to foster connection and build relationships. It is our hope that through print, we can create lasting impact and encourage creative collaboration.

  • Our goal is to combat the longstanding gatekeeping practices surrounding art.

Barriers like overly-technical texts, limited access, paywalls, coded art-world jargon, and other “norms” have often kept talented voices from sharing their work. By combining all forms of creative perspective without charging a submission fee, we hope to diminish barriers and inspire future entrants, many of whom may not have felt comfortable sharing their work in other spaces.

  • Printed is offered at an affordable price that maintains a profit for our contributing creators.

All funds made through the direct sales of Edition One of Printed will go directly to participants. Through this project, we want to make clear that art is worth paying for, and that artists are valued members of our community, whose contributions are nothing short of essential.

  • Printed is committed to developing a creative space that actively opposes oppressive actions, behaviors, and language.

Printed takes seriously the nondiscrimination and equal opportunity of all artists and their submissions without regard to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, military service, color, religion, creed, nationality, age, disability, genetic information, or any other non-merit factor.

We are committed to creating a zine that fairly reflects the diversity of maker and medium in our community.

Papertrail zine library

Papertrail is a traveling site-responsive installation featuring over 400 zines and art books that explores print as a mediator of community and connection. Zines are suspended from the ceiling, inviting viewers to open, read, and engage. Each iteration considers the architecture of its host space and at every stop, Papertrail issues an open call for local zines, incorporating them into the installation and contributing to the growing Papertrail Zine Library—a collection that, upon the project’s retirement, will be archived and available as a digital and physical public resource.
