Our Good River

Environmental discussions are often unpleasant, but undeniably necessary. The children of today, as made clear in this zine’s first article, are smiling into a world increasingly doomed to inaction. Stated in that same article though is perhaps the thesis of Our Good River, being “to put energy towards a beautiful vision of what this city could be: Healthy, just, and beautiful - something greater than ‘bourbonism’ and fossil fuel-based industry and infrastructure, beyond polluting ourselves and our place for profit.”

The following articles are starkly honest, discussing extinction, corruption, destruction, and more, but also celebratory of the vulnerable and proactive in their calls for change and organization. As displayed by the name, the centralizing theme is our beautiful, polluted Ohio River. The extinction and resurrection of the Lake Sturgeon, the endangered dance of the Sandhill Crane, the memorializing power of recycled puppetry, the need to clean our air in rhyme, and more are detailed by a collective of writers who hope to inspire more.
