Fanzines are today an underrated form of publication given the prevalence of online blogs and “stan” accounts, but through Defunct editor Blake Thomas and his contributing writers make contemporary an aged concept. While all of the content in the zine is originally written, including interviews, reflections, and reviews regarding classic rock music, placed between them is a nostalgic assortment of vintage ads. Reading these amazing writeups makes me wish I could still join the Todd Rundgren fanclub, for example, and gives Defunct an obvious reason to be held in the hand instead of read on a screen.
